Good Morning Grenada Lake

I’m normally up Monday through Friday before 6 a.m. to start my work day. I’m very used to getting up early through the week. I’ve been doing it for years. This isn’t typically what I do on weekends. This past weekend I woke up early without any alarm or any plans set. Without long to think about it, I decided to try to beat the sunrise and head to Grenada Lake.

It wasn’t my first time watching for the sun over the horizon at the lake or even the second one, but it was my first early morning one. Jack Frost had visited overnight, so it was a pretty chilly one for the area. I’ll remember to bring gloves next time.

As much as I tried to capture the beautiful palette of colors displayed in the sky, there is always just a little shortfall. If I only had more time. I swear the sun seems to rise much faster than it sets! All of the good light leaves rather quickly.

Trying to maximize my time, I decided to try grabbing a few more frames. By this time, I saw in the distance at the Visitor Center what appeared to be a park ranger observing me. I had absolutely no problems with that. He was probably wondering how long I could actually stand out in the cold to view a sunrise that he probably sees several times per week.

As I got ready to leave the lake to head back home, I noticed there was still some good light to be had and wanted to get a different perspective on the sunrise. I headed to the North Abutment Public Use Area. It’s an area that I had visited just a few weeks earlier to skip rocks.

With the water levels much lower, I was now able to walk into the dry lakebed. It was almost a rush trying to walk closer and closer to the water before the sun rose. I knew there would be a few good opportunities waiting.

I was so glad that I did not leave. I was much more pleased with the images I was capturing here with the water lakebeds reflecting the tones from the sky.

This is what it is about! This made missing sleeping in and cold fingers well worth it!
